Katin Pro-Am Team Challenge Returns to ASP North America

[ 0 ] January 12, 2010 |

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California (Tuesday, January 12, 2010) – After a lengthy hiatus, the Katin Pro-Am Team Challenge presented by Primo has returned to the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) as an ASP North America Specialty event. The iconic contest will see surfers do battle for the bragging rights of America’s best team from January 14-15, 2010 at North Huntington Beach Pier as the only event to be held on the North Side of Huntington’s famed location.

The unique low-pressure team event utilizes the traditional four-man ASP WQS format, with each surfer gaining points for their respective team as they advance through their heats while the four-man teams look to take top honors by posting the top combined-score.

“The Katin Pro-Am has a long running history here in Huntington Beach and it’s great to have it back as part of the ASP,” ASP North America Executive Manager, Meg Bernardo, said. “Having the Katin Pro-Am return as a unique team event is a nice addition to our North American regional schedule.”

Last year’s event saw 2010 ASP World Tour rookie and local standout Brett Simpson carry team Hurley to victory alongside former ASP World Tour veteran Rob Machado and 2010 will see a stacked list of talent including former three-time ASP World Champion Tom Curren (Santa Barbara, CA), 45, who will head up team Rip Curl, as well as competitive standouts such as Gabe Kling (St. Augustine, FL), 28, and Nathaniel Curran (Oxnard, CA), 25.

The Katin Pro-Am Team Challenge presented by Primo will run from January 14-15, 2010 and will be web LIVE via www.katinproam.com. In addition to the live web, fans can get up-to-the-minute updates via text message by texting KATIN to 53137.
