PIPELINE, Oahu/Hawaii (Sunday, January 24, 2010) – Pipeline was four-to-six feet (2 – 3 metres) this-morning, but reports from the West Side of Oahu, one hour away, warned of heavy lightning, thunder, rain and onshore winds that are headed for the ASP WQS 5-Star Volcom Pipeline Pro. Contest Director Marty Thomas elected to pull the plug on the event for today.

“We’ve got a very straight 4- to 6-foot swell of short intervals, and winds will soon be onshore,” said Thomas. “Off for the day.”

With 10 more days of the event period up their sleeves and plenty of swell on the way, competitors and officials were supportive of the call.

This is Volcom’s first ever ASP event and is a critical component of the 2010 ASP Hawaii season, offering valuable points towards World Tour qualification, as well as wildcard berths into the December Pipeline Masters.

Volcom has always been dedicated to Hawaii – from supporting a team of world-class Hawaiian athletes and ambassadors, to giving back to the community through local charitable events, sponsorships and organizations. The Volcom Pipeline Pro is Volcom’s next step in their commitment to Hawaii.

Join the event on the beach, via live web, also live in Hawaii on Oceanic Time Warner cable 250 or 1250. FUEL TV will also air a 30-minute wrap up show in America, Australia and Portugal at the conclusion of the event – details to be announced shortly.
