Huanchaco Longboard Pro Peru 2010 presented by Movistar Begins

EL ELIO, Huanchaco/Peru (Wednesday, January 27, 2010) The Huanchaco Longboard Pro presented by Movistar, the biggest longboard event in South America, started today at El Elio point break, in the beach town of Huanchaco in an excellent wave conditions, around 3 to 5 feet very long and perfect lefts. The event started with 8 round 1 heats and the first 4 heats of the second round with the seeded surfers hitting the water.

For the first time in Peru and in all of South America, the world´s best longboard surfers arrived to the north shores of this Andean country for an ASP Longboard Qualifing Series (LQS) 6-Star event, with US$ 30,000 in prize money and 2,500 LQS points.

This event is considered to be one of the most important competitions at a global level. The Longboard Qualifing Series (LQS) runs events all over the world, but the Huanchaco Longboard Pro 2010 presented by Movistar is one of only two 6 star competitions in the world, granting the highest amount of prize money and valuable points to surfers looking to qualify for the 2011 ASP World Longboard Tour (WLT). The traditional beach town of Huanchaco is the first stop of 2010 and it’s opening the season the best way.

Surfers from France, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, South Africa, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Peru, arrived in this city to compete with the ultimate goal of taking home the title. All of the professional surfers are stoked with the quality of the waves and the local hospitality.

The action starts

Despite a decrease in swell, they waves good enough for the surfers to show their best repertoire of progressive and traditional longboard surfing. Clean and consistent 4 to 5 foot waves made for an action packed day of competition.

The second round was intense from the first heat. Alexis Daniel’s (FRA) performance along with local surfer Piccolo Clemente obtained the best scores of the day. Clemente and Daniel´s respective 7 point rides were the highest single wave scores of the day and both are now two of the favorites to win the event.

Tomorrow the contest starts at 8 am with the heat number 5 of the Round #2 and after this round will start the man x man round.

Best wave of the day: Alexis Deniel (FRA) and Piccolo Clemente (PER) – 7 points.

Better best 2 waves scores: 12.50 Danilo Rodrigo (BRA) and 12 points of Alexis Deniel (FRA).
