PARACURU, Ceara/Brazil (Thursday, January 28, 2010) – The waiting period is finished and Maresia Surf International Paracuru kicks off on Friday. It was decided that the heats are going to roll in two different places at the same time. Organizers announced a call for 6:30am (local time) Friday to start the first ASP WQS 6-Star event of the season at 7:00am.

The spots will be checked on the morning in order to decide where to go. The principal arena in Paracuru is ready and there is another location prepared in the neighboring Boca do Poço. It’s the “plan B” but they are even ready for a “plan C” and the event can even be transferred to the Taíba Beach in São Gonçalo do Amarante, about 30 km far from Paracuru.

“We’ll wake up at 4:30am to check the conditions in Paracuru”, said head judge Sérgio Gadelha. Event director Amélio Junior and Gadelha will have the last word to start or not the Maresia Surf International. “Unfortunately the swell didn’t show up. We waited until the afternoon but there were no appropriate conditions for a start. Tomorrow we’ll run the event somewhere anyway”, completed.

“I think it will be postponed for tomorrow”, previously said Australian Nathan Headge during the second call of the day, at 9:30am. Then, they did another call at 15:30 hs just to announce another one for the next morning.

Nathan was once among the ASP Top elite and now is looking for the 3000 points offered in the ASP One Ranking like many others athletes as Brazilian Danilo Costa who agreed to postpone the 6-star WQS again. “That’s ok, especially with a good fore. People will come to see the show wherever it happens. Taíba beach is a nice location too”, adds Danilo.

The Maresia Surf International Paracuru 2010 is realized by Maresia with Classic Promoções, Federação Cearense de Surf (FCS) and TOP 16 Promoções. Co-sponsored by Governo do Estado do Ceará – Secretaria do Esporte, and the Prefeitura de Paracuru – Secretaria Municipal de Turismo, Cultura e Meio Ambiente. Media – Fortal 91,3 FM radio, Fluir Mag, Beach Show, Wave Wind and sites Waves, Cearasurf e EmfocoSurf. Watch live at www.aspsouthamerica.com.br
