Couran Cove Island Resort Pro Junior Day 2 On Hold
GOLD COAST, Queensland/Australia (Tuesday, February 2, 2010) – Organisers of the third stop of the 2010 Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Australasian Pro Junior Series – the Couran Cove Island Resort Pro Junior, have delayed the start of competition for the second consecutive day.
There was a slight improvement in conditions with Contest Director Scott Gillies suggesting that tomorrow will definitely see some action in the water.
“We’ve got the best international professional junior surfers in the world and the intention of this event was to place them in the best possible conditions,” said Gillies.
“This event was modeled off an elite ASP World Tour competition, so this is standard protocol in this type of format and we’re expecting to see some great waves and performances in the days to come,” he said.
Running from February 1-5, the Grade-4, AUD$20,000, specialty event is expected to commence competition tomorrow with favorable conditions fore for the latter part of the waiting period.
Couran Cove Island Resort General Manager Scott Hayden said that despite the lack of action in the water, competitors appear to be reveling in the luxury resort.
“All the surfers seem to be keeping busy and the feedback has been extremely positive,’ said Hayden.
“Our main priority is to make the surfing community aware of what is available for them here at Couran Cove Island Resort and I think this event will go along way in achieving that goal ,” he said.
When the hottest Pro Junior surfers in the world aren’t ripping apart the world-class beach breaks surrounding South Stradbroke Island’s Couran Cove Island Resort, they will be taking full advantage of the myriad of resort facilities.
Being run similar to an elite ASP World Tour competition, the Couran Cove Island Resort Pro Junior is based around a unique ‘island format,’ with the competition designed to give competitors optimal surfing conditions throughout the event’s duration.
The Couran Cove Island Resort Pro Junior is proudly supported by Couran Cove Island Resort, ASP Australasia, Red Bull, Australia’s Surfing Life Magazine, Sea FM and Surfing Queensland.
