Swell Rolls in for Final Day of Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic
DEE WHY, New South Wales/Australia (Monday, April 26, 2010) – A champion will be crowned in event No. 4 of the ASP Women’s World Tour, the Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic in Sydney today, with competition to get underway at 7am this morning in clean 3-4ft (1-metre) waves.
Following four consecutive lay days, a fresh southerly pulse of swell has hit the Northern Beaches of Sydney to allow contest organisers the opportunity to complete Round 3, Quarterfinals, Semifinals and the Final of the richest ASP Women’s World Tour event at the host venue of Dee Why.
“We’re starting the final day’s surfing early to take advantage of the swell on offer,” said event director Layne Beachley. “Competitors will be surfing the area between the famous Dee Why point to the peak out the front of the competitor’s area. It’s going to be a great day of surfing.”
When competition kicks off, ASP Women’s World No. 8 and defending event champion Silvana Lima (BRA), 25, will square off against Amee Donohoe (AUS), 29, in the opening heat of Round 3.
Reigning three-time ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS), 22, will feature in the round’s fourth heat. There she’ll take on event wildcard Laura Enever (AUS), 18.
The Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic will run from April 21 through 26, 2010 and will be web LIVE via www.beachleyclassic.com
