Massive Surf Forces Lay Day for Movistar Peru Classic
SAN BARTOLO, Lima/Peru (Saturday, June 5, 2010) - Monstrous 10-to-12 foot (3 metre) surf is washing through the lineup at San Bartolo today, prompting event organizers to call a lay day for the Movistar Peru Classic presented by IPD.
The fifth stop on the 2010 ASP Women’s World Tour, the Movistar Peru Classic boasts an electric field of international superstars eager to take on the ample surf projected for the waiting period.
“We have a solid swell on tap today and it’s washing through the lineup rendering it not contestable,” Dave Shipley, ASP Women’s World Tour Head Judge, said. “Projections are saying today is the biggest today so we’ll be back tomorrow to assess conditions for a possible start. The good thing is that it looks like to have plenty of surf on offer throughout the waiting period.”
Event organizers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 8am for a possible 9am start.
When Movistar Peru Classic competition commences, up first will be Melanie Bartels (HAW), 28, Rebecca Woods (AUS), 25, and Nikita Robb (ZAF), 21, in the opening heat of Round 1
