Full Day of Competition for South to South Santa Maria Pro
LAGUNA, Santa Catarina/Brazil (Saturday, June 26, 2010) - Praia do Cardoso was the chosen beach to continue the South to South Santa Marta Pro. The contest started 8am and 25 heat were run today, finally the waves showed up as predicted with 2 feet early morning and reaching 3 to 4 feet in the afternoon.
As the weather became more and more friendly as the day progressed, the crowd started to came to watch the surfer’s battle for points in the nicely shaped waves of Cardoso Beach. The young hot surfer from Sao Paulo Caio Ibelli was the record keeper of this Saturday.
“Today I was able to surf very well, winning the 2 heats I’ve got into. I’m stoked for the two high scores I got right in the ning of my second heat. The swell is visibly getting up, the waves got better and I want to keep going strong tomorrow,” said Caio, a 16 year old kid from Sao Paulo, who won the Brazilian Pro Junior title this year and just made the semifinals in the last WQS held at Praia Mole, Florianopolis, defeated only by the contest champion Aritz Aranburu from Spain.
Having completed a big air Caio Ibelli scored 8.17 points along a 7.90 from his first ride, making this the biggest combined score of the day. Tomorrow Caio Ibeli will meet surfer Patrick Tamberg in the 3rd heat of the round of 16 surfers.
Sunday competition starts 7:30am with the last heat of the Round of 32 surfers unable to be run today due to the lack of light in the late afternoon. Right away starts the Round of 16 surfers, Quarterfinals starts at 11:20am, semis 1pm and the South to South Santa Marta Pro grand final reach the water about 2:15pm.
The last day of competition will see only Brazilian surfers battling for the U$ 16.000,00 dollars and 2.000 points destined to the South to South Santa Marta Pro Champion. As the last international surfer the Argentinean Leandro Usuna, was defeated in the Round of 48.
The quest for the best waves on the Santa Marta Cape restarts Saturday, with the first call set for 7:30am at Cardoso Beach.
