Two Straight Victories for Perth Standlick at Shonan Super Kids Challenge
HIRATSUKA CITY, Kanagawa/Japan (Sunday, August 15, 2010) – Day 2 and the final day for the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) Japan Pro Junior Qualifying Series commenced this morning at 9am at Hiratsuka beach. The local weather at Hiratsuka today was partly cloudy with fair skies to create an excellent final day.
The waves were in the 1 to 2 ft.(0.5meters) range and rose along with the change of tide and winds.
4 girls Nao Omura JPN, Reika Noro JPN, Natsuki Suda JPN and Minato Takahashi JPN moved to the finals. Last week at Chiba Noro claimed victory but this week at HIratsuka Oomura fights back and claims 2nd victory for 2010.
The Pro Juniors Final started with current ASP Japan Pro Junior Series Leader Kaito Ohashi (JPN), Perth Standick (AUS), Kento Takahashi (JPN) and Ginji Ishida(JPN).
Takahashi scored high with aerial moves with 7.5 and 5.0 points, but Standlick this week again claims victory – two straight weeks with two excellent scores of 8.25 and 8.10 and a total of 16.35 points for his effort with backhand off the bottom and off the top moves full of commitment to secure high scores by the judges.
“I’m over the moon! It’s been nuts this week but I was very hungry for victory this week,” Standlick said. “Two wins in a row is unbelievable. I was pretty nervous yesterday night that the swell was dropping and may turn flat. Luckily it picked up again today. Sure like to keep this momentum moving and do well in the ASP Star Series coming up later this year.”
The next stop on 2010 ASP Japan Tour is ASP Star Series Malibu presented MURASAKI PRO KIAIZUMI and the conjunction events including pro junior event scheduled Aug.18th thru Aug. 22 at Kitaizumi Beach in Fukushima-ken.
