Ziems Leads the Action on Day 1 ASP 1-Star Malibu Hyuga Pro

OGURAGAHAMA BEACH, Miyazaki/Japan (Friday, October 8, 2010) – The Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 2-Star Malibu Hyuga Pro commenced this morning with LQS action Round of 32 at Oguragahama Beach in Miyazaki, Kyushu Japan. The local weather in Hyuga this morning was cloudy with occasional showers with waves in the 2 – 3 ft. (1.8 meters) size range with clean light winds to create excellent conditions for Day 1.

The ASP 2-Star Round of 64 followed as well as the Round of 16 for the LQS later in the afternoon at Hyuga today.

Corey Ziems (AUS) made his first appearance at the event at the opening heat of the star series event. The Queenslander from Currumbin went straight into action and scored high scores from his first wave. With under 15 minutes remaining, Ziems scored a high score of 7.75 points. Ziems takes off on the following wave to his forehand and with fully commitment he claims the wave with multiple carving off the tops as well as bottoms and makes the air move at the shore with perfect landing to score the first excellent score of 9.00. Ziems takes both honors of highest heat score of the event so far with a 16.75 convincingly to win as well as the wave scores to lead the event for Day 1.

First call tomorrow morning is 7.00 AM JST and the event is on schedule to start with the cadets and groms round 1 and 2 followed by star series round of 32 as well as quarter finals for the LQS on the man on man. The schedule and regulations are subject to change according to the conditions on offer. Stay tuned for the latest information.

Malibu Hyuga Pro Will is held at Oguragahama Beach in Kyushu of south Japan from Friday, Oct. 8th, thru Sunday, Oct. 10th, 2010.

Events to be held in conjunction with Malibu Hyuga Pro will be ASP Japan LQS 1star event, MALIBU HYUGA PRO LONGBOARD as well as the cadet’s event, Hyuga Pro Junior.

The 2010 edition of Malibu Hyuga Pro will be held again in October of the autumn season. All events mark the last event for the ASP Japan region. All regional champions and seeding will be set after this event. Naoto Takanashi (JPN) will surf as the No. 1 seeded surfer for the event.
