Oxbow ASP World Longboard Championship is On, Champion Crowned Today

[ 0 ] November 4, 2010 |

MAKAHA, Oahu/Hawaii (Thursday, November 4, 2010) – The Oxbow ASP World Longboard Championships is back on this morning in clean four foot (1.5 metre) waves at Makaha and will crown a champion by day’s end.

The Oxbow ASP World Longboard Champion is a winner-take-all event, with the event winner clinching the title of 2010 ASP World Longboard Champion.

“We’ve got consistent surf this morning and the boys should be ripping and tearing out here at Makaha,” Eli Curry, Oxbow ASP World Longboard Head Judge said. “We’ve only got 11 heats left, so we’ll be finishing the event today to capitalize on the remaining swell.”

Yesterday’s action saw a flock of Hawaiians assert their dominance over the international field while Antoine Delpero (FRA) put on an impressive performance for the European contingent. Kekoa Uemura (Makaha, HI), who is a former ASP WLT competitor, eliminated reigning ASP World Longboard Champion Harley Ingleby (AUS) in their Round 1 bout, guaranteeing a new champion for 2010.

Kicking off today’s action will be Hawaiian Kai Sallas (HAW), 33, and South African talent Matthew Moir (ZAF) in Heat 5 of Round 2.

The Oxbow ASP World Longboard Championships holds a waiting period from October 30 through November 7, 2010.
