O’Neill Women’s World Cup Competition Called Off Again

SUNSET BEACH, Oahu/Hawaii (Tuesday, November 30, 2010) – Event officials at the O’Neill Women’s World Cup of Surfing were forced to call competition off for a fifth consecutive day with nearly no surf on offer at Sunset Beach, but are expecting the arrival of a new swell which will have competition back on tomorrow.

With Stephanie Gilmore having wrapped up her fourth consecutive ASP Women’s World Title in Puerto Rico, the ASP Top 17 are now battling for the prestigious Vans Triple Crown title as well as the crucial ratings points on offer towards requalification for the ASP Women’s World Tour.

“Unfortunately there is no surf again this morning and Sunset is completely flat,” Randy Rarick, Vans Triple Crown Executive Director said. “With the swell forecast looking grim for the remainder of the waiting period, we have decided to run heats at both Sunset and across the channel at Kammies beginning tomorrow.”

Surfline, official forecasters for the O’Neill World Cup and O’Neill Women’s World Cup are expecting a small-scale northwest swell to fill in on Wednesday and Thursday.

The O’Neill Women’s World Cup, which runs in conjunction with the ASP PRIME O’Neill World Cup of Surfing holds a waiting period from November 24 through December 6, 2010 and is webcast LIVE via http://www.triplecrownofsurfing.com/oneillworldcup/
