[ 0 ] January 24, 2011 |

BANZAI PIPELINE, Oahu/Hawaii (Sunday, January 23, 2011) - Oahu’s North Shore has been the focal point of the surfing world’s attention over the past week with day after day of spectacular huge surf. The run of swell continues this week and could see the Volcom Pipe Pro start tomorrow, January 24, with a holding period through February 5.

A $120,000 5-star Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) rated event, the Volcom Pipe Pro has lured more than 100 of the world’s best barrel riders from 15 nations to the North Shore, each vying for a share of the loot. Their performances in the coming days will surely uphold Pipeline’s reputation as being the most dangerous, dramatic and breath-taking surf venue on the planet.

The Volcom Pipe Pro will be broadcast live on the internet at volcompipepro.com with a steady flow of action, world class barrel riding, and spectacular warm water winter imagery found only in Hawaii. In the Islands, Oceanic Time Warner Cable will also carry the live broadcast on digital channels 250 & 1250HD.

Headliners in the event include defending champion Jamie O’Brien and fellow Hawaiians Bruce Irons, Dusty Payne, ASP Hawaii champion Billy Kemper and Volcom wildcard Kalani Chapman (HAW); Australian trio Mark Mathews, Heath Joske and Dean Morrison; Dane Gudauskas and Cory Lopez (USA); and Teppei Tajima (JPN).

An Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 5-star international event, the Volcom Pipe Pro will be held on the three biggest and best days of surf between January 24 and February 5, 2011.

The 2011 Volcom Pipe Pro has partnered with Surfline.com as the official contest forecaster, along with Electric Visual, Transworld Surf and Fuel TV.
