NEW YORK, New York/USA (Monday, January 24, 2011) – There’s been a lot of talk about surfing’s place amongst the sporting world, and with our most recognizable figure, Kelly Slater (USA), 38, cementing his immortality last season with 10 ASP World Titles. Now, the Floridian-born “citizen of the world” has joined the ranks of sporting gods Muhammad Ali, Joe Namath, Michael Jordan, Björn Borg, Julias “Dr. J” Erving, Tom Brady, the world-renowned Tim Lincecum (huh?), among others in GQ Magazine’s “25 Coolest Athletes Ever”. While, Kelly’s “coolness” has never been questioned, the recent recognition amidst such prestigious company is a massive achievement. Congrats Kelly.
Check out the teaser gallery at GQ and be sure to catch the issue when it’s out.
Kelly will be back in the singlet for the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast next month!
