ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (Tuesday, February 8, 2011) – Freshly crowned 10-time ASP World Champion Kelly Slater (USA), 38, has been awarded his third Laureus World Action Sports Award, recognizing Slater’s accomplishments alongside Spanish Tennis star Rafael Nadal and skier Lindsey Vonn at the world’s most prestigious sporting awards ceremony.

Slater, who earned the honor in 2007 and 2009, was recognized once again after four-time ASP Women’s World Champion Stephanie Gilmore won the Laureus World Action Sports Award in 2010. This time, Slater was chosen over other top action sports names including professional snowboarding icon Shaun White, and Gilmore.

The Laureus foundation uses sport to combat global social problems and has raised millions of dollars for projects to help better the lives of the youth of our planet.

Congrats on the award Kelly!
