Patacchia Injures Knee at Home, Report by ESPN

LOS ANGELES, California/USA (Wednesday, March 16, 2011) – Fredrick Pattachia (HAW), 29, current No. 13 on the ASP World Title Rankings, has reportedly suffered an injury to his left knee during a free surf with friends near his North Shore home after his return from the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast. Although the talented Hawaiian has yet to receive word from a doctor on the official diagnosis of the injury, Patacchia is concerned that he may be sidelined for the upcoming ASP PRIME Drug Aware Pro in Western Australia and possibly the next stop on the ASP Dream Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach. ESPN.com caught up with Patacchia following the incident. This… is their story…

It was Fred Pattachia’s first surf since getting home from the Gold Coast, Australia. The 29-year-old, Sunset Beach resident went to Mokuleia on Monday with good friends Sean Moody and Nalu Law. A rising north/northwest swell produced fun, uncrowded, high performance waves at the underground spot.

“I was feeling good,” said Patacchia, who finished the Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast with an equal 13th result. “We were surfing with only four other dudes in the water and my board was feeling good under my feet.”
