Kolohe Andino (USA), 16, will tackle several ASP Dream Tour surfers at the upcoming ASP 4-Star Vans Pier Classic.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, California (Monday, March 21, 2011) – While last week saw the focus on men’s and women’s events unfolding in both Newcastle and Noosa, Australia, this week will turn to Gisborne, New Zealand for the first stop of the O’Neill Cold Water Classic Series while the Vans Pier Classic presented by Jack’s Surfboards and Vans Pro Junior will hold down the fort at Huntington Beach Pier in California.

After kicking off their first event in Tasmania over the past few years, the first O’Neill Cold Water Classic contest of 2011 will unfold in Gisborne, New Zealand this year. The men’s ASP 6-Star event will see current ASP Dream Tour campaigner Adam Melling (AUS), 25, and 2010 ASP World Junior runner-up Nat Young (USA), 19, take on several of top up-and-comers for the crucial points on offer towards their ASP World Ranking.

On America’s West Coast, the ASP 4-Star Vans Pier Classic presented by Jack’s Surfboards will represent the season opening ASP Star rated event in North America while the ASP 4-Star Vans Pro Junior marks the third event of the 2011 ASP North America Pro Junior Series. A stack of the world’s finest surfers will take on HB Pier at this year’s Vans Pier Classic including Adriano de Souza (BRA), 24, Josh Kerr (AUS), 26, Damien Hobgood (Satellite Beach, FL), 31 and Taylor Knox (Carlsbad, CA), 39, while the Vans Pro Junior will see defending regional series champion Evan Geiselman (New Smyrna Beach, FL), 17, and Kolohe Andino (San Clemente, CA), 16, lead the field of under-21 talent in the hunt for a spot on the 2011 ASP World Junior Tour.
