Second Lay Day for Yop Reunion Pro Junior, Restart Expected Friday in Clean Surf

[ 0 ] April 14, 2011 |

TROIS BASSINS, Reunion Island (Thursday, April 14, 2011) – With some close-out sets not allowing any good enough scoring potential, event officials in consultation with the event’s remaining surfers had to call the event off for the second consecutive day, all eyes on tomorrow’s expected clean five-foot (1.5 meter) waves.

“Trois-Bassins is still getting too much close-outs and the athletes were not keen on getting out there when tomorrow is supposed to be fun and with good scoring potential,” Yop Reunion Surf Pro Junior event director Christophe Mulquin said. “We will be back at 7.45 AM tomorrow Friday for a possible 8 AM start and we are confident competition will resume in good conditions.”

Despite several calls throughout the day to assess conditions, with both their local knowledge and professional experience, event officials including ASP Europe Junior Series Head Judge Aitor Aguirremota, Surfers’ representative Medi Veminardi and contest director Christophe Mulquin agreed on postponing the restart of competition until tomorrow.

With three days remaining in the waiting period of the inaugural Yop Reunion Surf Pro Junior, and some clean surf to settle from tomorrow, competition will resume Friday and there is a chance to see champions crowned before Sunday.
