Billabong Rio Pro is ON, Men’s Competition Off for Today

Pauline Ado (FRA), will take on four-time ASP Women's World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) and wildcard Suelen Naraisa (BRA) in Round 1.

BARRA DA TIJUCA, Rio De Janeiro/Brazil (Thursday, May 12, 2011) – After calling a lay day yesterday, the Women’s Billabong Rio Pro has nearly completed Round 1 and Round 2 will immediately follow with Round 3 on standby. No men’s Billabong Rio Pro competition will be held today.

“The swell has dropped off from yesterday, but we have some clean waves on offer and will open up the Billabong Rio Pro with women’s Round 1,” Richie Porta, ASP International Head Judge said. “The men’s competition will be off today, but we’ll continue to run Round 2 for women’s competition and keep Round 3 on standby.”

When men’s competition begins, 2010 ASP Rookie of the year Owen Wright (AUS), 21, will take on Heitor Alves (BRA), 29, and Bobby Martinez (USA), 28, in Heat 1.
