Inaugural ASP 4-Star Quiksilver Clasico Mazatlan Kicks Off On June 1, 2011

MAZATLAN, Sinaloa, Mexico (Thursday, May 26, 2011) – The Inaugural ASP 4-Star Quiksilver Clasico Mazatlan is ready to host a hefty field of emerging talent from around the globe at the lefthand pointbreak of Playa Camaron in Mazatlan, Mexico from June 1 through 5, 2011.

The Quiksilver Clasico Mazatlan represents the first of three Latin American events on the ASP North America Calendar for 2011, offering talent from emerging surf nations the opportunity to capitalize on the valuable points on offer towards their ASP World Ranking.

After two successful years at the Quiksilver PE Pro in Puerto Escondido, the major brand has expanded further into Latin America by teaming up with the city of Mazatlan, Mexico’s original surf city, and the ASP 4-Star rated event is a welcome addition on the 2011 ASP North America calendar.

“Quiksilver couldn’t be more stoked to finally connect these world-class waves with world-class surfers via the Quiksilver Clásico Mazatlan,” Quiksilver Latin America Marketing Manager, Jim Compton said. “Mazatlan is an often overlooked surf zone full of warm, empty left point breaks and Quiksilver and the communities of Mazatlan look forward to welcoming ASP surfers to these events, and to giving the locals a chance to compete against some of the best in the world.”

Angelo Lozano (Puerto Escondido, MEX), 24, has been traveling the globe to better his ASP World Ranking for several years and is hungry to capitalize on the three ASP 4-Star Quiksilver events in Latin America this year while establishing himself as a name on a global scale.

“It makes me really happy to finally have more of these events close to home instead of having to travel so far around the globe,” Lozano said. “I think it gives us Mexican and Latino surfers a great chance to build up a good base of points on the World Ranking, especially since we have these events at waves we are familiar with. Thanks to Quiksilver and the organizers of the new events, I can’t wait!”

The Quiksilver Latin American events represent three out of five ASP 4-Star contests on the 2011 ASP North America calendar and also offer an excellent opportunity for young USA and international surfers to build their ASP World Ranking as well.

The Quiksilver Clasico Mazatlan holds a waiting period from June 1 through 5, 2011 and is webcast LIVE via www.quiksilver.com/mazatlan
