Roxy Pro Called Off on Day 1, New Swell Expected Mid-Week

[ 1 ] July 11, 2011 |

BIARRITZ, France (Monday, July 11, 2011) – The 2011 Roxy Pro waiting period kicked-off this morning, nice weather but inconsistent surf conditions greeting the ASP Elite Top 17 at 7. 30 AM for the first call. Event officials in consultation with surfers’ representatives, decided to come back in the afternoon and reassess conditions but nothing contestable was on offer at the 4 PM call, the decision being made to meet back Tuesday at 8.30 AM.

« We were hoping of a possible change with the tide shifts but nothing happened, » Roxy Pro contest director Charley Puyo said. « The forecast shows a new swell for Wednesday and we will meet back tomorrow in case the first pulses hit la Cote des Basques earlier. We want to give both divisions good surf conditions and are putting everything in place to allow it.»

With current ratings front-runner Carissa Moore (HAW) in reach of a maiden ASP Women’s World title and hungry rookies looking to secure their requalification for next year’s ASP Women’s elite contingent, the Roxy Pro will be the stage to hard-fought battles from Round 1.

Second-to-last event on this year’s ASP Women’s World title race, The Roxy Pro runs from July 11 to 17, and gathers both the ASP Women’s World title elite Top 17 and the ASP Women’s World Longboard Tour Top 32 for a unique format mixing world-class surf action, art and music in Biarritz, on the South West Coast of France.

When competition kicks-off, first to battle will be Tyler Wright (AUS) up against Courtney Conlogue (USA) and Rebecca Woods (AUS).
