Nathan Webster (AUS) won his Round 1 heat yesterday morning.

ARPOADOR, Rio de Janeiro / Brasil (Wednesday, July 27, 2011) – The SuperSurf ASP World Masters Championships is back on today in clean two foot (.5 metre) waves at the rippable lefthand pointbreak of Arpoador in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil.

Today’s proceedings are set to see Round 2 of the Masters Division take to the water after yesterday saw several icons kick off their SuperSurf ASP World Masters Championships campaigns in Round 1.

With small waves predicted throughout the majority of the SuperSurf ASP World Masters Championships waiting period, event organizers have opted to capitalize on the swell on offer this morning to recommence competition and will put the opening round of the Grand Masters on hold.

“The conditions look a bit better than yesterday, so the plan is to run the second round of Masters and put the Grand Masters on hold,” Roberto Perdigao, SuperSurf ASP World Masters Contest Director said. “Maybe with the tide coming in we can get a better conditions.”

Competing in the this year’s SuperSurf ASP World Masters will be ASP World Champions Barton Lynch (AUS), Derek Ho (HAW), Tom Curren (USA), Mark Occhilupo (AUS), Shaun Tomson (ZAF), Wayne Bartholomew (AUS), Peter Townend (AUS), Cheyne Horan (AUS) and Terry Richardson (AUS) among other surfing icons. Both the Masters and Grand Masters divisions will feature a round-robin style format.

The waiting period for the SuperSurf ASP World Masters Championships runs from July 26 through 31, 2011. A call at 7:30am local time will be made tomorrow morning for a possible restart to competition.
