Lay Day for SuperSurf ASP World Masters Championships

Comments July 28, 2011 |

ARPOADOR, Rio de Janeiro / Brasil (Thursday, July 28, 2011) – The SuperSurf ASP World Masters Championships has been called off due to uncontestable conditions at the lefthand pointbreak of Arpoador in Rio de Janiero, Brasil.

The SuperSurf ASP World Masters Championships are running a round-robbin format, which allows competitors in both divisions the opportunity to surf in five non-elimination rounds while gaining points for their placing in each heat. The top performers will advance into the Quarterfinals.

“Definitely the decision for today is to call the event off,” Roberto Perdigao, SuperSurf ASP World Masters Contest Director said. “Swell is too small for Grand Masters, even for Masters. Forecast for tomorrow is a little bit increase in the period and the swell size, so we decide to wait until tomorrow.”

The SuperSurf ASP World Masters Championships completed the first two rounds of Masters competition and the opening round of the Grand Masters throughout the first two days of the waiting period and witnessed several of surfing’s most iconic figures battle in friendly camaraderie for the first ASP World Masters even in seven years.

The waiting period for the SuperSurf ASP World Masters Championships runs from July 26 through 31, 2011. Event organizers will reconvene at 8am local time tomorrow morning for a possible restart to competition.
