HUNTINGTON BEACH, California / USA (Monday, August 1, 2011) – The opening day of the Women’s Nike US Open of Surfing is LIVE this morning in clean two-to-three foot surf at South Huntington Beach Pier and today’s action is scheduled to see the completion of the first two rounds of competition.

After several years as an ASP 6-Star event, the Nike US Open of Surfing has been upgraded to an ASP Women’s World Title event and represents the final stop on the 2011 season. While Carissa Moore (HAW), 18, has already clinched her maiden crown, this year’s elite event will play a crucial role in women’s requalification campaigns for 2012.

“The conditions have cleaned up substantially from the last few days and we have some peaky three footers coming through this morning,” Dave Shipley, ASP Women’s World Tour Head Judge said. “We’re planning on getting through both Round 1 and 2 today.”

Up first will be ASP Women’s World Title Series Rookies Tyler Wright (AUS) and Courtney Conlogue (USA), against veteran Jessi Miley-Dyer (AUS), in the first Round 1 heat.

The women’s Nike US Open of Surfing runs alongside the men’s ASP PRIME event as well as men’s and women’s ASP Pro Junior competitions. The elite surfing contest is also part of a massive action sports festival which features BMX, Skateboarding, Music, Art and Fashion shows, all of which are free to the public.

The Women’s Nike US Open of Surfing holds a waiting period from August 1 – 7, 2011 and is webcast LIVE via www.usopenofsurfing.com
