[ 0 ] August 8, 2011 |

EL GRINGO, Arica – CHILE (Sunday, August 07, 2011) - The Arica World Star Tour event finished off the week in epic conditions and perfect barrels at El Gringo, Chile in an all-Chilean Final. Guillermo Satt caught the best waves of the Final to beat Camilo Hernandez in Arica. The two surfers were the only ones to receive perfect 10-point rides from the judges, getting some heavy barrels in El Gringo on the way to the winner’s podium in Chile.

The event winner, Guillermo Satt (CHL), started off Sunday’s competition by defeating Marcos Monteiro (BRA), but really only started to shine during his Semifinal heat against Luis Maria Iturria (URY). Satt caught two fantastic tube-rides which scored a perfect 10 and an 8 respectively to receive the day’s highest heat-wave total of 18.00 points (out of a possible 20). Satt’s heat total score came close the event’s highest heat-wave total of 18.90 points by Chilean Ramon Navarro, who scored a 9.9 and a 9.0 from the judges in competition Saturday also in great waves at El Gringo.

Camilo Hernandez got the first 10-point ride in the other all-Chilean battle on Sunday against Cristian Merello during the Quarter-finals. Hernandez later beat Miguel Tudela (PER) to reach his first Finals in an ASP World Series Event. Hernandez’ Runner-up finish earned him U$ 3,500, while Satt received U$ 7,000 and 750 points in classic waves at the ASP World 3-Star event in Chile.

A total of 41 surfers from 7 countries spent a dreamlike week in Chile, being able to surf one of the world’s best barreling waves with only one other person out in the water. For the majority of competitors, that was even more important than the U$ 50,000 in prize money distributed at the 3-Star event. Each surfer received a minimum of U$ 500 for participating in the event.

Upcoming Events – The Arica World Star Tour was No. 6 out of 9 events of the ASP South America Surf Series 2011 which will determine the South American professional champion of the season. Event Organizer, Abril Midia, has yet to announce if the event will take place in Ubatuba or in Sao Sebastiao. The following event will be Brazil Open of Surfing set for September 18-23 at Arpoador Beach, Rio de Janeiro.
