Quiksilver Pro New York Back ON with Round 2, Round 3 On Standby

Matt Wilkinson (AUS), 22, will take on compatriot Adam Melling (AUS), 26, in Round 2 of the Quiksilver Pro New York.
LONG BEACH, Long Island/New York (Wednesday, September 7, 2011) – Round 2 of the Quiksilver Pro New York has been called ON this morning, and will be commencing in cross-shore three-to-four foot (1 metre) waves at 7:30am.
Event No. 6 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title season, the Quiksilver Pro New York got underway yesterday with the world’s best surfers tearing into the playful peaks of Long Beach for Round 1 and today will see the beginning of man-on-man elimination competition with Round 2.
“The surf has increased slightly overnight and we’ll be commencing Round 2 at 7am,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said. “It’s not ideal conditions with the wind and the rain, but looking at the conditions we’ll have over the next few days, we’ll be making the most of what we have on offer today.”
Up first this morning will be Mick Fanning (AUS), 30, up against Balaram Stack (USA), 20, in the opening heat of Round 2.
The Quiksilver Pro New York will be webcast LIVE via http://www.quiksilverpro.com
Surfline, official forecasters for the Quiksilver Pro New York, are calling for clean offshore conditions with occasional light rain, and slowly increasing SE swell from Katia mostly in the chest to shoulder high range with a few head high sets. Longer lines sweeping in but still peaky/fun from yesterday’s leftovers.

B. Martinez should have chosen his words more carefully, but he’s right. The ASP needs to improve the way they approach contest formats ie. wildcards and who’s allowed to surf the event, where the events are held etc. Its just become so corporate and money driven that it’s losing it’s true identity.Which is the best surfers in the best waves, period. If the tour were the place to be Machado, Dorian, and guys like bruce irons would still be on it like Kelly. Instead they are having more fun surfing just cause they love it.The guy who just got barreled doesnt care about surf contest.
what did BM say to get kicked out of the event? The world wants to know!
