if Rafael Nadal withdrew from the US open it would be splashed all over every back page, and in some countries the front pages as well, yet when Dane Reynolds, arguably amongst the current top five hardest hitters of the surfing world, withdraws from a contest, it barely causes a ripple. I'm not really interested in all the 'juicy' detail, but he clearly isn't injured any more (or is he??), so something else must be of issue. Why is it nigh on impossible to get any 'news' on the subject? When Jordy was out after Tahitii, I was trawling the internet to get news on his progress, whether or not we'd see him in the lineup in NY or Trestles etc etc.., nothing! I visited his own website, this site (asp), magicseaweed.com, surfline and anywhere else I thought there might be an update to be found.., nothing, well, nothing I didn't already know if I was watching the webcast! If surfing is trying to step up a gear, it's going to have to build a new gear box, we seem to be lacking 3rd, 4th and 5th gears completely. There have admittedly been huge forward steps taken, especially with webcasts etc, really exciting stuff, but where news is concerned, we really need to step up to the plate. C'mon asp, support your athletes AND your audience, we deserve better.
