Competition Called Off for Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco

Comments November 4, 2011 |

OCEAN BEACH, San Francisco/California (Friday, November 4, 2011) – Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco competition has been called off for a second consecutive day, with disorganized two-to-four foot (1 metre) waves on offer at the Ocean Beach.

Stop No. 10 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title Race, the Rip Curl Pro Search saw Kelly Slater (USA), 39, secure a historic 11th ASP World Title yesterday while several of the world’s best surfers tore in to peaky three-to-five foot surf in firing conditions.

“While we have waves, there’s too much of a luck factor due to the randomness of the conditions so we’ve decided to call competition off for the day,” Richie Porta, ASP International Head Judge said. “We’ve got plenty of time remaining in the waiting period with better conditions on the way so there’s no need to force competition today.”

When competition resumes Josh Kerr (AUS), 27, will face off against Tiago Pires (PRT), 31, in Heat 11 of Round 3.

The Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco is Stop No. 10 of 11 on the 2011 ASP World Title Series with a waiting period from November 1-12. The 2011 Pro Search will be broadcast live on Fuel TV, Livestream.com and live.ripcurl.com

Surfline, official forecasters for the Rip Curl Pro Search San Francisco are calling for much smaller NW swell leftovers to prevail Thursday as onshore flow builds through the day. A solid NW swell will build through the day on Friday, strongest late, beforefading on Saturday. Variable onshore flow prevails both Friday and Saturday, although there will be somebrief windows of light wind (especially Friday). A smaller NW swell will show on Monday with light onshore flow.
