She made the point that if there were woman's events this year she would not be taking the offered slot nor would it had been offered. With the slot secured it's time for her to show the world just how far and fast women's surfing has progressed. I hope she makes many heats!

I am not falling for the "tough economy" and "the slowing women's surf market" crap; this is clearly gender discrimination. Year by year, the best women's events have been taken away, starting with Tahiti and Fiji in 2006. The economy was not bad then. Then, Honolua Bay was taken from the Women's Triple Crown in 2010. And now in 2011, the entire Women's Triple Crown was taken away. The women on tour know what is going on, and it is not due to the economy, it is due to SEXISM. All of the best waves were taken out of the women's tour, waves they were very happy to surf. The women's tour is being held to small, unchallenging waves that any surfer, professional or not, would be able to surf. The women on tour deserve better waves and better pay. Whoever is in charge of the ASP must realize that we are in 2011, not the 1960s, and stop trying to hold back the progress women have made in surfing.

Whether you think this is a good idea or not, we'll see what happens when Carissa hits the water. Either way it's a real shame that there aren't womens events in Hawaii this year, the girls have been ripping, I can't beleive there's not enough money in the industry to run a full tour with Hawaiian events.

If it's not giant, she will almost certainly win some early round heats. If you saw that vid of her at Trestles recently, you can't deny she is undoubtedly better than a good chunk of the men on the WQS.

If memory serves me correctly, she surfed in a men's QS event and received 375 points. I hope she wins heats at both places this time. Surfing is not a contact sport (except if you count the lip or the reef). There should be no qualms about co-ed participation.
