HUNTINGTON BEACH, California/USA (Tuesday, November 15, 2011) – ASP International has released its 2012 World Tour schedule today, outlining the respective ASP World Title, ASP World Junior, ASP World Longboard, ASP Masters, ASP Prime and ASP Star tours for the year ahead:

2012 ASP World Title Series:
Quiksilver Pro Gold Coast – Australia (February 25 – March 7, 2012)
Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach – Australia (April 3 – 14, 2012)
Billabong Rio Pro – Brazil (May 9 – 20, 2012)
Volcom Fiji Pro – Fiji (June 3 – 16, 2012)
Billabong Pro Jeffreys Bay – South Africa (July 11 – 22, 2012)
Billabong Pro Teahupoo – Tahiti (August 16 – 27, 2012)

Rip Curl Pro Portugal – Portugal (October 7 – 17, 2012)
Billabong Pipe Masters – Hawaii (December 8 – 20, 2012)

Notably absent from the 2012 ASP World Title Series schedule is the Rip Curl Pro Search, but the event will return in 2013.

“We are taking a year off from the front line of running the event and putting a solid 18 months into the planning of the 2013 Rip Curl Pro Search. To take the Search to the next level is always the goal. We do that every year, but following San Francisco and the twist it delivered to the surfing world we feel we need more time and care to really blow minds,” said Rip Curl’s Neil Ridgway. “Throughout the history of the Rip Curl Pro Search we have had everything from ASP world titles to underworld rip offs, terrorist alerts to perfect tubes, great personal and professional difficulty and epic celebration parties. This event more than any other combines the discipline of professional sport with the traveling lifestyle and freedom surfers love. It needs to be nurtured so it grows better than ever. A year tending to it in planning is the right way to develop it.”

The 2012 ASP Women’s World Title Series sees the return of the core seven events from this season, and the ASP will be diligently working on adding events before the start of the season in February.

2012 ASP Women’s World Title Series:

Roxy Pro Biarritz – France (July 9 – 15, 2012)
Nike US Open of Surfing – USA (July 30 – August 5, 2012)

2011 marked the first fully functioning year for the ASP Prime Series and the initial offering was a resounding success. The ASP Prime events will continue to showcase the established elite tour campaigners battling the new guard in ten venues this coming year.

only 7 womens’ events…really….we ought to be able to do better than this. no disrespect towards these events listed…i’m just venting…

  3. langar27 says:

Thank god for Fiji this year! That tour schedule has to be the most boring line-up in years. Looks like I’m forced to watch the IBA World Tour this year for good waves! ASP just hand over fist for money and forgetting about amazing surf breaks all over the world that entertain surfers, fans and the local towns that thrive on the event itself.

  4. josh says:

I agree that there are a lot better surf destinations than New York (although this year was decent) but it is still a business and the only reason surfing has got to where it is today is due to the rise in funds for both the surfers and the companies that sponsor events. HB usually sucks but I go to see the pros up close, and it is always a good time! I do hope it doesnt go back to groveling surf like in the 80′s and early 90′s though.

    1. rrep1 says:

ok guys..in a feisty mood, wont post again after this…fact is , Bobby was right…circus event here and as much as I enjoyed seeing the worlds best, once is enough…we all get disrespected when we go to other peoples breaks worldwide…why so much hatred? i dont know…i do know where i go in my spot is the best people in my life and if keeping ASP and bad attitudes away from this place, then let everyone keep bad mouthing and just stay away….alls i wanna do is surf a fun wave n chill with those who want to do the same….doesnt matter how big or gnarly or death defying..surf is for fun,is not that how it began? fun rides all ;)

  5. Howard Mason says:

Glad to see NY on the map again.

To all you nay sayers….Wah, Wah, Wah, Boo Hoo heres a box of tissues. Waves can never be a guarantee when doing a contest(as being experienced with the current event)and hopefully mom nature will provide again.

As a local we enjoyed the show and the unreal surfing. From the Opening Ceremony to the competiton it was an experience we will never forget and have plenty of pics and video so my little man will never forget. We feel blessed my son Max(17 months old at the time)my wife and I made some really great friends on the staff of the event who’s hospitality and graciousness thru out will not be forgotten. He & we look forward to seeing them again.

There was some unrest between Long Beach and Quicksilver and some unhappiness of extras cancelled but the core of the show went on and mother nature provided. This year I’m hoping to take my vacation days during contest time so I can spend more time on site and in the water than online. The 9/11 paddle out was also huge and an honor to participate in.

A champion surfer makes it work in all conditions and they all blew us away with the quality of surfing dislplayed from Irene to pre-Katia slop to some really great swell as Katia cruised on by.
I look forward to it. Welcome back Quicksilver and the ASP!!!

Just hope Danny Fuller can deal with the ghetto again…LOL… Hang on to that backpack of yours.

    1. jscottk says:

Have the NYC contest in Rockaway. Lots of parking, easy access and getting permits is as easy as rolling up a wad of 20 dollar bills. Plus ASP could get instant street cred.

  6. Andre Luiz says:

What´s happen Coldwater in Santa Cruz ???

  7. Bobby says:

ASP have done a great job. The sponsors are profit driven, so brazil is a surf market expanding. Most do not want brazil, but a few beach breaks are good, it brings out the slop specialist who whip around in this style of surf. It is only 2 stops on peak beach breaks which I think is good.

The only thing missing is Bali. You get the tourist their with a world class left hander.

Come n surf companies, please bring Bali on to the ASP tour.

    1. jason says:

Disappointed to see New York again, chances of striking gold 2 years in a row is slim.
Why not add another event in Hawaii ?
Where real men can surf waves of consequence.
Linking air reverse to air reverse while having no style becomes tough to watch.

    2. rrep1 says:

yeh, no doubt..just replied to another poster…waves are just no good here on east coast…waste of time and money by ASP…everybody should just stay away from NY as there is no good surf here…imagine thinking there could actually be a wave near a city..dont waste your time and money coming to NY, no waves here..thanks

  8. Maddog says:

Last time i checked G land was still there. nah thats a silly place 4 a comp…doesnt fit the criteria anymore.

    1. phil says:

What do you think Fiji is :)

    2. phil says:

true can’t do airs in such an awesome wave… no way asp would approve :)
rather brazil and new york… lamos

  9. Raphael Grandi says:

The real wold tour will be when we step in: Indo 2 times, Peru, El Salvador, Mexico, Costa Rica, Australia, Portugal, Canarian island, Fiji, Tahiti and Hawaii 2 times.
Until then we will never know what is really the best surfer in the world.
ASP needs to reflect: money or surfing?
The only way to change this is Kelly, Jordy, Owen, Joel refused to ride in 2012

  10. PaPaB says:

aah man california again, how you like that. At least the NY DIDN’T have boring lay days, stop sweating the EAST.

ASP, thanks for giving us mortals a chance to see THE WORLDS BEST SURFERS in person over here.

    SOOO STOKED – CAN’T WAIT

  11. Thomas says:

Why cant the search go to Morocco or Nambia!

  12. Julie says:

You are all talking about Men’s Tour… have you checked the Womens Tour??? i would say, the Australian tour… australia is not surf world!
    So disapointed by this schedule…
No sponsors, no ASP support. It’s a shame.
It’s been getting worst since those last 2-3 years.

    1. ant says:

yes no common sense but the whole system has to change with the mens surfing tour then i hope he womens tour will follow, the whole scoring system is dumb and it seems like the whole surfing tour on both sides is corrupt or there jus a bunch of dead heads with no common sense,im sad about the mens tour, and i cant immagine what the woman r thinking.why cant maybe the girls and guys on tour vote maybe on the spots they want why is there always this seperation with the judging and with the events, its not surfing its bullcrap.

  13. ASP fan says:

ASP, it really sucks that the hottest, best surfing women in the history of competitive surfing are being denied Hawaii again. My family (used to) watch them every year on the North Shore. Sorry ladies, you deserve better. Hope Carissa crushes some egos at the Triple Crown.

  14. JC says:

No ripcurl search??? Come on !!!!

  15. Rafael M says:

I would make the following changes:

1- would definitely cancel Rio in Brazil on may, and would start in early/mid January at Fernando de Noronha Island in North east Brazil. This time will be absolutely smoking there with the winter north Atlantic swells.

    2- Gold Coast / OZ – OK
    3- Bells / OZ – OK

4 – On May, could be a good platform for the Search… (they need 18 months to plan what??? maybe they run out of spots, but have you guys ever considered anywhere in central America? El Salvador, Costa Rica, Panama, even in Mexico (anywhere) could be a good spot)…or Peru?

    5 – Fiji – GREAT!
    6 – South Africa – GREAT!
    7 – Tahiti – GREAT!

8 – NY / USA – AGAIN???????? Why not Rincon this time?

    9 – France – OK
    10- Portugal – OK
    11 – Pipe – as usual…Ok

Where is Mudaka? Reunion Islands? Grajagan? Maldives? West OK? Somehere lost in West Africa? Morroco? Canaria Islands? Come oooooooooooon Rip Curl, tell us the true…why 18 months waiting?????

  16. b9 says:

18 months to organise a contest.. where is going to be? on the outer rings of saturn? they should do a search in the mentawais next year, charter a shitload of boats, surfers, journos and a webcast. job done.

  17. Troy says:

Shame the ladies have only got another 7 events this year with no events in Hawaii, what a shame they always get to surf sloppy shit. The mens tour would not stand for this so why are we making the women. Not exactly the way to highlight women’s professional surfing.

Sort your shit out ASP, surfing is not a men’s only sport.

Vans should be ashamed of yourselves, not enough funding for the women’s triple crown. Fucking Lame!!!

  18. Jason says:

The “World Title Series” is not called the dream tour anymore by anyone who’s not a chronic internet complainer; get over it! The surfers wanted more money, but to get it they needed to make some changes to the tour. All the internet whining (“I’ll never buy anything from Globe again!”)is what cost us the Fiji event a few years back, and it speaks volumes that people’s first reaction to this schedule is whining about New York, rather than celebrating the fact that my favorite event is back on tour after several years away. It’s sports people, sit back and enjoy the show.

  19. Luke says:

Completely agree Sean’o where’s Indo? where’s the search? the dream tour doesn’t exist. The judging this year was the worst I’ve ever witnessed (Kelly points), 6 beach breaks is not a dream its the stretch between D’bah and Straddie. Fiji’s a start but not enough, performance surfing is great but we already have a WQS for that. Perfect waves is what its all about common.

    1. antman says:

there should be a couple of beachies but they were lucky at new york to have 3 foot and now there goin there again hmm there pushing it,why isnt sunset in there at the end with pipe ad maybe gland there true waves where technique and style play a big role, but the scoring system is where its at its bogus and dumb the whole tour lies on judges blurting out silly scores during each heat,it needs to be brought into the future.i can give a few suggestions, but im bored of repeating myself as maybe they actually want to keep with the illegitimate scoring system and hand certain surfer$ heats$.

  20. Ted Sorlien says:

Skip NY. You got lucky once. Won’t happen again. Sorry Sean C.

    1. rrep1 says:

couldnt agree more…NY is a horrible wave…its flat here 362 out of 365 days a year…ASP is just wasting their time coming here…please all, dont make the same mistake by coming here, its just east coast slop and a waste of time..waves here are no good so its best to just stay away..thanks..

    2. Worm says:

You are right. J-bay is always good right..How was the final last year..LOL and Teahupoo too (Had a bunch of crap waves up until last year). Yeah it’s always good.

Lets take off the biggest city in the world..HAHAHA

      Good waves great nightlife.

Every tour surfer said one of the best events of the year…

    3. scooter ritzert says:

Dear Ted… You don’t have clue… Luck had nothing to do with the wave quality in for the Quicksilver Pro NY. Hurricane season always produces, as in, every year. The swell was excellent but not all time or epic for September. It’s more likely that there will be as good or better surf for the contest window in 2012 than the reverse. I know it’s not Trestles, but ..oh wait.. Long Beach was actually BETTER than Trestles this year…my bad. I forgot.

  21. Pebbles says:

I can blow minds very quickly with Search suggestions. Got like 7 weeks b/t Portugal and Pipeline to fit something in, oh yes, the Triple Crown which only starts mid-Nov. That’s over 3 weeks twiddling thumbs – just takes 10/11 days to guarantee a contest. Well, I guess we can call it Volcom pro search in Fiji. Fiji??? Hope those 18 months of planning pay off.

  22. muz says:

18 months for Rip Curl to organise a Search event, must b looking real hard

  23. Nick Smith says:

New York… Again??? OK it was a pretty successful comp this year but the ‘Dream Tour’ should really be focusing on quality surf not advertisers $ and the American market. There’s an entire friggin world out there. Please!!!!

  24. Lake bell says:

HORRIFIED to see the Women’s tour has NOT ONE single change to it’s poor state this year. Come on, seriously. Its about as positive as a Ponzi scheme.

    1. boring says:

Its because chick surfing is boring and even though they are surfing better its stilll just not interesting enough – why waste the best waves / or be forced to waste good competition surf for boring chick surfing…?

ps agree with beachbreak sentiments – bali is super consistent and high performance not to mention easy to get to – why not have something there instead of crappy beachies somewhere.

    2. tim says:

      @boring.

besides snapper and bells the chicks get nothing. every other wave is crapy, generally bellow 2 ft and normally onshore. yes you can call it boring if your a dimwit and don’t know what surfing is. they are ripping. check out carissa’s recent clip from lowers, i think u may take back that statement of “chick surfing is boring”.
the girls deserve better then what they are currently getting, its a shame that ASP won’t put them in even B grade waves. so we can see that they can actually surf given the chance.

    3. boring says:

      Thats “you’re” a dimwit – dimwit.

Just calling it how it is – and BTW I surfed with 3 chick pros a few months back and no doubt they are surfing better (perhaps as good as any average local standout surfer) but compared to most young male pros – they got nothing.

      Fact Im sure.

  25. NY says:

After Long Beach NEW YORK threw one of the best ASP tour stops EVER (crowd size and wave quality combined) people are still complaining about a New York stop??? Get over it!! NY is wack for surf 90 percent of the time granted, but the peak of hurricane season has been pumping solid surf like a clock work for generation…

    1. Samuel says:

      I agree with you. I’am from Spain…

  26. John says:

Oh my god are you kidding me new york again you have really made of shame of yourselves this time ASP and the so called worlds best surfers on the worlds best waves. Your just doing it for the god damn money aren’t you. By the way I don’t see the worlds best surfers either as you kick them off for speaking their mind. I mean the women’s world tour even has better waves than this. I used to be a fan of you guys but now i don’t think i will be watching any of these events. The QS has better waves than new york or rio why don’t you go to ballito or kangaroo island.

  27. Rob Zen says:

Need more technical locations – great to have Fiji back, however there are many other solid places in the world to hold a WCT event (Maldives, Indo, NZ, Rincon, Blacks in La Jolla, etc.)

  28. anton says:

what are these people doing there now they wont run the search, well ok i hope they make big big changes like changing the bogus scoring system.

  29. outer_cortez says:

where is the Kangaroo Point Pro …..brisbane has been waiting for this for years. ASP stop snobbing us!

    1. Maddog says:

shoosh dude u just gave away the biggest secret in Brisbane!!! now its gonna be chockas with Jimmy airboys n photogs. does pump tho when the citycat goes past…YEEEEEEWWW.

  30. paul says:

Change New York to New Zealand and your tour is a lot better and what did happen to the CWC series????

    1. Eddie says:

Absolutely, get the boys out to Raglan or the Island, both world class!

    2. Jason says:

New Zealand rejected the Search a few years ago. Can’t go where they don’t want you.

    3. Matt O'Brien says:

Rip Curl Search Tried a few years back AND THE LOCALS SAID “NO!!!!!” Guess what – happens more than you think. That is why it’s so hard to see “the best in the best” – most breaks don’t want the media attention (i.e. Barra er um i mean.. La Jolla). Be happy with what we get – it could be worse, it could be Like the Ladies Tour with only 7 events. cheers

    4. Shhh says:

Respectful surfers are welcome in NZ just not a media circus.

    5. paul says:

That is because they only wanted to hold it in Raglan, why not try holding it somewhere in Dunedin, Gisborne, or New Plymoth……all with world class breaks

  31. Sergio says:

ASP please prioritize perfect waves instead of beach breaks in big cities where you can through in all sorts of events. I believe the surf community wants to see the best surfs on the best waves and if you keep adding ordinary beach breaks on tour the public will lose interest on it. At leats I am.

    1. scott says:

I disagree, in order fully see how good these guys are and what is possible on a wave I want to see them on waves I ride i.e. beach breaks.

  32. Regan says:

Everyone complained about New York (me included), noone really had the opportunity and time to complain about San Fransico (but we were all thinking it), Brazil is always crap….BUT you no what, New York pumped, San Fran pumped and the Brazilian surfers are ripping and deserve a home comp…I absolutely enjoyed the 2011 World Title series and look forward to 2012 thanks ASP

  33. King Diamond says:

You guys are doing New York again? Come on! What are the odds of getting good waves there again next year? Oh well, only 2 sh*tty beachbreaks next year and 2 semi-sh*tty ones. Could be worse I guess, but there are a hell of a lot more dream waves out there for the “Dream Tour” that the hardcore fans would like to see the best surfers in the world surf.

  34. Sean'o says:

Still no Comps in Indonesia,, makes sense, much better quality and more consistent in places like Brazil and New York…
Im sure the old “but you cant do the web cast” “too hard to organize” “Terorists” excuse is still there even though the search did it fine and Oakely World Pro Junior do it every year,, each year the competitors say “these are the best comp waves we surf on any of the wqs or pro jr events…
    makes sense

  35. Christian Ribeiro says:

    Good day all,

I’m a huge fan of ASP and I wish I could work with you guys one day.
I have a question: What happened to the Cold Water Classic series?

    Cheers,

    Christian

  36. Guillaume says:

This morning, Stab Magazine wrote that a World Tour event will be held in Santa Cruz, between Portugal and Hawaii (http://www.stabmag.com/elliot/asp-world-tour-2012-schedule): is it right or wrong?
