Round One of ASP WLT Bear Pro presented by Jeep is ON

LEVANTO, Italy (Saturday, November 19, 2011) – The ASP World Longboard Tour (WLT) Bear Pro presented by Jeep has relocated to Andora, 180km North West of Levanto, in search of a small pulse of swell which has formed from a low pressure system off the coast of Corsica. Competitors and event officials made the pre-dawn drive and were greeted with clean 1-2ft peaks along the main beach of Andora. After waiting 9 days to commence, the 50,000$USD event has began with Round One hitting the water.

After monitoring conditions and watching the surfers warm up after a week without surfing, officials decided to give the ‘Green Light’ to start and take advantage of the increasing swell which is forming. Contest Director Julien ‘Vico’ Hamel, was onsite and spoke about the current situation of the Bear Pro presented by Jeep.

“The swell is building and the surfers have been there super early to check the spot and warm up. We have surprisingly two banks working. One left-right bank that was not working yesterday and a left with some good potential I think. So right now we have the possibility of running the event on double banks if we want because the swell is building.”

“The only issue we have is with the light,” stated Hamel. “The later we start the less chance we will have to finish the whole round. So basically 12 noon start, one bank, 20 minute heats because there are plenty of waves and we have to get through as much as we can today. Right now it seems contestable for both ASP and surfers.”

Due to the remote location no LIVE webcast is available however LIVE scores from each heat are being transmitted. Further updates will be posted at the end of today’s action.
