Will Miguel heal in time for Pipeline?

SUNSET BEACH, Oahu/Hawaii (Thursday, December 1 ,2011) – Miguel Pupo (BRA), 19, has been building momentum on his rookie year on the ASP World Tour. The high-flying Brazilian launched his way to victory at the ASP PRIME O’Neill Cold Water Classic before taking a 9th place finish at the Rip Curl Pro Search and unfortunately Pupo suffered a setback yesterday while surfing Pipeline. The goofy-footer punted an air and an awkward landing damaged his left knee, forcing him to withdraw from the ASP PRIME Vans World Cup of Surfing. The ASP checked in with Pupo to get the details on the injury as well as his status for the Billabong Pipe Masters. This… is his story…

You’re on crutches and your left knee is in a brace, it looks serious, what happened?
“I was surfing Pipe yesterday at lunchtime and trying to get some shots,” Pupo said. “I was on a stupid one-foot close out and forced an air on the section. When I landed, my front foot slipped off of the board and all of my weight went on my back foot and my knee was twisted.”

What is the diagnosis and when will you be back in the water:
“I called my doctor and described how my knee’s feeling and luckily he seems to think it’s nothing too serious. I had to pull out of Sunset, but my doctor thinks I’ll only be out for a few days so I’m just going to rest up with lots of ice. I have a lot of time to heal for Pipe so hopefully I’ll be ready for that.”

C’mon people ofcourse he went to a doctor in Hawaii, that’s how he got the knee braces and the crutches. He called his personal doctor in Brazil to describe to him what happened and to get a personal advice and not to get a diagnosis. The doctor in Hawaii probably told him it wasn’t something too serious, but still he wanted to call his personal doctor to make sure. GO Pupo! Queremos vc nos tubos de pipe!

right on stu! And this kid is the Top hurley surfer in the whole wold, top 16 át. Wt ranking and is treating his injury by phone! What a joke! Shake on hurley!

  3. panpan says:

It’s in Nike/Hurley’s interests to take care of him.

  4. panpan says:

Come on you do not just call a doctor abroad to get a diagnosis! Unbelievable what are his sponsors doing?? Nike should definitely send someone. At this level you have to be very, very serious and disciplined, above all about your body.

  5. Stu Kennedy says:

Where is his support? Somebody should know better than let him just call a doctor in Brazil. He is just a kid. Send him to a hospital and pay his bill for an MRI…

I would hate to see a talented kid like this not taking care of his body and learn the hard way…
