Appreciate the comments. However, Dane didn't get bucked early because of the midyear rotation. He simply chose not to surf events and failed to requalify. Would have been in the same boat had there been not midyear rotation last year.

Peaches,

3 to the beach was the standard back in the day and did not determine the best surfer in a heat. It was also pretty boring.

The top two wave scoring allows the surfers to show their full repertoire, even in the event of an inconsistent heat. - I used to hate the top three wave format back when I did NSSA's - you could get a couple of really good waves - but the spaz that caught 10 waves won the heat.

I definitely agree with you on the air scoring. I saw some pretty big upsets this year because someone did a huge air and got a 9.5 or 10. Airs are cool and all - but they are becoming more repetitive and boring. I would much rather see Taylor Knox do a huge rail carve than Medina do another 360 air. Airs are a dime a dozen now.

ASP:

I am happy you did away with the midyear rotation, still bummed guys like Dane got bucked prematurely, however.

Judge 3 waves per heat. At least. Maybe four. Way more fair. And less emphasis on airs. Lots of heats are won because of one air while the other guy ripped it the whole heat, proving to be a much better, well-rounded surfer. Keep the airs in the skate park or have an entirely different circuit (air shows, etc.)to prove how long you've been practicing airs out of the water or with your dad's jet ski. Not fair.

what perrow says doesnt really make sense as he says the new mid year rotation system went better than they could have imagined. So why was it introduced in the first place?and yes he says the qualifying system is becoming disorganised hmm i think the whole system needs serious changes for the future, instead of fussing around with these useless changes that has happened with the scoring system and how to qualify make smart big logical changes.

A One World Ranking would be way better with rotations after every event.

Would you stop messing about already.

If you have the WT surfers vote, of course they'll end the mid-year rotation. 2/3 of them aren't safe, majority rules.

My guess is 2/3 of the fans, however, really liked the rotation and the new blood it brought, as well as the excitement of many of the WT surfers also competing in Primes.

Oh well, won't be the first or last time a small group gets to make decisions without considering the millions of surf fans and what they would like to see.

back @ASP,i disagree there r many great freesurfers and guys doing qs events who could easily mix it up with the guys, they either dont bother with the tour, cant qualify because the system is too stringent and unattrative. And im sure any great surfer out there would have no problem with a crowd watching them perform. The dream tour i wish it will become more of an amazing dream tour thanks.
