Drugs definitely increase performance – its proven.

Various drugs certainly enhance focus, endurance and reduce lactic acid build up.

Imagine that you are surfing and you take a lactic acid reduction drug and stimulants. After a day of surfing you have a massive advantage if you take this stuff because you will feel fresher and have more power as well as less fatigue in your muscles.

With so much cash and glory in winning a pro event it is a huge temptation to anyone to take performance enhancing substances. This is a reaction to that from the ASP and for large sports its needed.

I have friends who are professional athletes and they just get used to having someone watch them pee in a cup. Its not an invasion of privacy – its part of the rules of professional sport and if you want to compete just deal with it.

I think its a great move and is essential to take pro surfing to the next level of professionalism.

Same thing call it what you like steroids , roids , cortizone shots, it is all the same thing just depends on how a person takes them. Bike riders have “thin frames” because of all the cardio …DUH!!!

Since roids are not being used in surfing this whole thing is a waste of time.Also with Medical Marijuana being legal in cali. it is unfair to stop a person who has their doctors approval from smoking the herb. Weed is a god created plant and has been a part of our culture for over 50 years.Tom Curren was blazing tough the whole time he was on tour and is one of the best surfers of all time I remember watching Derrick Ho puff a fat joint on the beach in cali before a heat and going out and ripping!

I don’t think they are talking about alcohol.
If weed is tested for it could be a problem too.
Neither enhance performance. So, so what.

Cocaine…that crap ruines lives. Maybe this will draw attention to it. Keep groms away from it.

West: for your information, some “roids” as you call them, are meant to enhance your performance and endurance, not to get big and ripped. Have you seen tour de France for instance? They got the skinniest frame ever and a lot of them have been tested positive and have been suspended. It is the type of steroids we are talking about bro.

Anti Doping Testing is great thing only …
If the ASP is going to test surfer for doping, then they need to test every surfer at every event every time, from a Jr. Pro to a 1 Start to CT, not just one guy here, one guy there. As for a surfer using roids to surf better , haha.. that a joke, i would of loved to surf against a dude on roids, doing his jumping jacks pre-heat, the dude would be so heavy he would sink, the only way to surf better is to Surf all day , every day. the surfer would has the most water time is always the best guy in the lineup, ie: Kelly Slater (surfs more than you realize), this year’s Triple crown winner JOHN JOHN ( currently surf more than anyone period). Surfing as a “life style” that is a Dying Breed, the new generation surfs for sticker placement & money.. Wayne Lynch and guys like Todd Morcum are “Life Style” surfer… Wayne who? Todd who? Exactly my point. Slater his whole career has put the beat Down on any who has abused anything, that goes way back before 99% of you every even thought about surfing, from ESA boys division to to his 11th world title.. if you looked back 14 of the pass Tour champions would not of been World Champion’s if this was the policy from the start, (every one of the pass Champs are a mazing people in and out of the water) so stop this pointing the finger at the King AI, and get the story straight.

Agree with everything exept pot and alcohal. I’ve never seen anyone get wasted and surf better.. just like people that are baked aren’t going to have perfect timing. If these pro’s can’t enjoy a beer on a lay day.. that’s messed up.
