COOLANGATTA, Queensland/Australia (Saturday, 21 January, 2012) – The final stop on the 2011 ASP World Junior Tour, the Billabong World Junior Championships Gold Coast the has begun at Burleigh Heads this morning. There’s 2 – 3 foot (1.5 meters) fun-sized waves running down the point this morning and a call has been made to finish the Men’s 16 heats of Round 1 today.

“We’re looking at about 2 to 3 feet of swell at the Burleigh rock break,” Contest Director Luke Egan said. “During the morning high tide we’ve got favourable winds so we’re going to get straight into the boys event and finish Round 1 today. Conditions over the next few days are looking pretty similar, so there’s a good chance we will run the Women’s Round 1 or the Men’s Round 2 on Sunday.”

The Billabong World Junior Championships Gold Coast will be webcast live via www.billabongpro.com

The Billabong World Junior Championship is supported by the Queensland Government, through Events Queensland.

The Billabong World Junior Championships Gold Coast is brought to you by Monster Energy Drink, Sony, Events QLD, Sony Ericsson, VonZipper, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, ASL magazine and Burleigh Boardriders.
