COOLANGATTA, Queensland/Australia (Wednesday, 1 February, 2012) - The Australian Longboard Surfing Open has received a huge boost this week with NSW Dept of Sport and Recreation announcing that they will be getting behind the event. Following this came the exciting news that the Green Aussie Cleaner would become involved as the naming sponsor for the ASP LQS Men’s Division.

“It’s been a great start to the new year for professional longboarding here in Australia,” Event Manager Sean McKeown said. “It’s great to have the NSW Department of Sport and Rec supporting the new Australian Longboard Surfing Open. Plus we’ve received a major boost for the event from a locally grown business Green Aussie Cleaner ® taking up the naming rights to make the ASP Longboard Qualifying Series a 3-Star event.”

“As a 3 Star LQS event the Australian Longboard Surfing Open has solidified its position as the leading and richest longboard event in Australia and ASP Australasia must thank the tireless work of Sean McKeown in creating this great opportunity,” said ASP Australasia’s General Manager Dane Jordan. “The upgrading of the Australian Longboard Surfing Open to a 3 Star LQS event is a huge boost for longboard surfing in the Australasian region. Australasia is home to a large number of former world champions and top competitors like Josh Constable, Harley Ingleby, Chelsea Williams and is home for part of the year to current men’s ASP World Longboard Champion Taylor Jensen, so it is great to see a company like Green Aussie Cleaner supporting these incredible athletes.”

When making the sponsorship announcement the founder for Green Aussie Cleaner ® said he sees a very natural relationship and synergy between his natural products with the prestigious event. “It makes a lot of sense that Green Aussie Cleaner ® in producing world class Australian products designed and manufactured locally as well as being totally safe and natural, team up and sponsor a sport empowered by the natural energy of the surf and the people who respect and love the unique ocean on this finite planet we live on.”

The Australian Longboard Surfing Open will feature both men’s and women’s ASP LQS divisions with $20,000 total prize money as well as a Noserider Specialty event, Retro Boards, Amateur divisions, SUP surfing and racing and coaching clinics. A number of world longboard champions including current ASP World Longboard Champion Taylor Jensen (USA) and 2009 ASP World Longboard Champion Harley Ingleby (NSW) are expected to compete along with a number of other internationally rated competitors including Matt Aldridge, Jackson Close, Jared Neal in the men’s division and 2010 ASP Women’s World Longboard Champion Jen Smith (USA) has indicated she will return, together with Candice Appleby (USA).

The Australian Longboard Surfing Open will also host lifestyle stalls, surf vehicle show & shine, music, movies, bikini parade and for the first time ever a seafood cooking demonstration by Channel 7 celebrity chef, Steve Snowy Snow from the award winning Fins Restaurant at Salt.
