It seems in the last 3 to 4 years fitness has finally come into the picture as far as who will have the advantage at crucial times during the grinding season.
Kelly is a freak as far as that goes and it looks like Parko,Mick and Jordy got on the fitness train.
Taj does not look as strong and chiseled as much as the Adriano,Jordy,Kelly even Parko is recognizably stronger than in previous years.
My money is on Jordy to get over the hump,especially if Kelly cannot find the Eye of the Tiger this year

if Taj won the title it would mean the surf was really bad. has Taj ever won a memorable contest or does Taj only win in small surf? small Snapper, small Pipe, small Bells, small J-Bay.

I like Shaun’s logic. Getting to the Semis consistently requires 40 heat wins. With very little change in the ranks this year, everyone should be familiar with the breaks challenged. Granted, Teahupoo isn’t in people’s comfort zone and there is the risk that the ocean will dole out crap one heat and perfection the next. The only thing really standing in the way is the surfer’s head. Many times a must make heat has rattled him/her. Preparation and calm are the keys outside mother ocean. Hopefully Taj lets his skill work for all the way through. Hopefully, Parko dosn’t suffer another injury. The other 4 mentioned are also quite capable and should be confident enough to get past the occasional Rounds 1 and 4 losses. Medina, Flores, Pupo, and Bourez are worthy opponents who will make it interesting. I’ll stick with the notion that it is still too early to make a solid prediction. That is one thing which keeps the spectators watching; who will prevail. Of course the infrequent occurence of an opponent comboing Kelly is also there.
