Kelly’s 10-Point Air-Reverses – Which Was Better?

[ 9 ] April 13, 2012 |

COOLANGATTA, QLD/AUS (Friday, April 13, 2012) – In the Final of the recent Rip Curl Pro Bells Beach Kelly Slater (USA) landed a massive full rotation air-reverse. He threw down a similar air at last year’s Quiksilver Pro New York. Both waves were deemed 10-point-rides by the judging panel, but which was better?

Surfing Life Magazine have put together a clip comparing both waves. Have a look, and weigh in with your opinion.

    Bells. More critical.

  2. Camilo Polo says:

To me the one at Bells was waaay better, I watched them both live on the internet and I was not expecting Kelly to pull one of those at the final in Bells Beach because it was too windy. I’m just a fan and I don’t know that much about surfing, but from a fan’s point of view both were insane maneuvers and a move like that deserves a 10 for sure based on difficulty, performance, innovation and just the beauty of it. Seriously, we are lucky to be alive and witness the talent of surfers like Kelly Slater.

  3. Kingy says:

The bells air was just a little more tweaked that the NY air and it was without a grab! The NY air kelly landed in the whitewater in Bells he got enough of a lip launch that he landed in the flats and still pulled it.

  4. JonMark says:

The one he pulled at Bells looked a lot harder on his 40y young body. It’s beautiful but almost painful to watch as the wrong timing could have resulted in an injury. He had so much forward redirection and projection that he landed in the flat in front of the lip. In contrast the one in NY, though impressive, was on a slow and weak beachbreak. Landing in those kind of soft waves is usually less risky.

bells air is better – and there is no grab. my other opinion is that getting a 10 for one move is a joke….

The bells air was 12 points. Its got to be a record of some kind.. Its the sickest thing that has ever been done on a surfboard for sure, close to 10 foot off the ground and smashing the landing like that on the flats.

      shred or die..

    • Matt W says:

A joke? Well good thing the judges aren’t as down as you. Oh wait…..

  6. Brian says:

Post the videos back to back! Not pictures. Either way, I think NY’s Air revo was slightly better.
