DEE WHY, Sydney NSW/AUS (Thursday, April 19, 2012) – Round 1 of the 2012 Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic has been called on at Dee Why beach, Sydney today. The surf is three-to-four foot (1.5 meters), with both lefts and right-handers on offer for the world’s best female surfers.

Stop No. 4 of 7 on the 2012 ASP Women’s World Championship Tour, the Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic offers valuable ratings points in the race for the ASP Women’s World Title. This is a pivotal event on tour for all of the surfers, not only the ones fighting for the ASP Women’s World Title. There are competitors trying to claw their way up the rating for a coveted top 5 or top 10 ranking.

Layne Beachley, seven-time ASP Women’s World Champion and Commonwealth Bank Beachley Classic Contest Director made the call to put Round 1 on after assessing the conditions for a few hours this morning.

“I’ve decided to start based on the fact that today is the biggest swell of the competition waiting period,” Beachley said. “It’s not raining and the sun is out and we’re expecting conditions to improve throughout the day. The tide is low at 1pm, so we may go on hold halfway through the Round. We will be assessing the condition throughout the day.”

The event will be webcasted live via www.beachleyclassic.com

whats up with the terrible picture quality even on high quality stream and the awful sound that keeps dropping in and out? this is in Sydney, right? not on the moon?

Was just about to comment on that. :( This is really not good enough for a world tour event 2012. Crap quality live stream and no heat reviews/videos from previous day/s.
