ARPOADOR, Rio de Janeiro/Brazil (Thursday, May 10, 2012) – After a brief holding period this morning, the women’s Billabong Rio Pro is on at Arpoador for the second consecutive day in one-to-three foot (.5 metre) surf. Following women’s Round 2 competition, event organizers will reassess conditions to potentially move through to the latter rounds.

Stop No. 5 of 7 on the ASP Women’s World Championship Tour, the Billabong Rio Pro saw the ASP Top 17 take to the water at Arpoador yesterday and saw some banner performances from the world’s best female surfers in Round 1.

“The conditions have improved with the dropping tide and we’re going to continue women’s Round 2 competition today,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge said. “We’ll reassess conditions for Round 3 and have officially called men’s competition off for the day.”

Up first this morning will be Paige Hareb (NZL), 21, against Pauline Ado (FRA), 21, in the opening Round 2 heat of the Women’s Billabong Rio Pro.
