Billabong Rio Pro Women’s Round 3 is ON, Possible Finish Today

BARRA DA TIJUCA, Rio de Janeiro/Brazil (Saturday, May 12, 2012) – The Billabong Rio Pro women’s Round 3 action is on at the primary venue of Barra da Tijuca in clean one-to-two foot (.5 metre) waves with the remainder of the event on standby.

Stop No. 3 on the Men’s ASP World Championship Tour and No. 5 for the women, the Billabong Rio Pro ran Round 1 of men’s competition and Rounds 1 and 2 of women’s action at the backup location of Arpoador and has relocated to the primary site for women’s Round 3.

“We’ve got small, clean waves on offer this morning and will recommence with women’s non-elimination Round 3,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge said. “We’ll reassess conditions before moving into Round 4 and with unfavorable winds and rain for the final day of the women’s waiting period, a Billabong Rio Pro Women’s Champion could be crowned today.

Up first this morning will be Tyler Wright (AUS), 18, Courtney Conlogue (USA), 19, and Alessa Quizon (HAW), 18, in Heat 1 of Round 3.
