BARRA DA TIJUCA, Rio de Janeiro/Brazil (Monday, May 14, 2012) – After a four-day break from men’s competition, the Billabong Rio Pro is back on in four-to-six foot (1.5 to 2 metre) waves at the primary site of Barra Da Tijuca.
While the ASP Top 34 have had a hiatus from competition over the past days, the Billabong Women’s Rio Pro was completed yesterday, crowning Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), 21, the 2012 champion.
“The swell has filled in significantly overnight and we’ll recommence competition at 7:30 local time,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge said. “We’ll begin with Round 2 this morning and have put Round 3 on standby for this afternoon.”
Brazilians Gabriel Medina (BRA), 18, and Peterson Crisanto (BRA), 19, will take to the water in the opening Round 2 heat of Billabong Rio Pro competition.
