Billabong Rio Pro is ON, Champion Crowned Today

BARRA DA TIJUCA, Rio de Janeiro/Brazil (Wednesday, May 16, 2012) – The final day of Billabong Rio Pro competition is on in clean two-to-four foot (1 metre) waves at Barra Da Tijuca. Today’s action will begin with the Quarterfinals and crown a champion by day’s end.

Yesterday’s competition was graced with firing three-to-five foot (1-1.5 metre) wave at Barra Da Tijuca and saw some banner performances from the world’s best surfers to decide the final eight surfers of the Billabong Rio Pro.

“We’ve got clean conditions on offer this morning at Barra Da Tijuca and plan on finishing the contest today,” Rich Porta, ASP International Head Judge said. “Best of luck to our remaining competitors.”

UP first this morning will be Tiago Pires (PRT), 32, vs. Joel Parkinson (AUS), 31, in Quarterfinal No. 1 of Billabong Rio Pro competition.
