Lay Day Called on Day 1 of Roxy Pro Biarritz

CÔTE DES BASQUES, Biarritz – France (Tuesday, July 10, 2012) – Inconsistent swell this morning in Biarritz forced organizers to call competition Off on the opening day of the Roxy Pro waiting period. Clean but small 1Ft surf is breaking at ‘La Côte des Basques’ today, not enough for the World’s Best to surf the opening round of competition.

“We had to call OFF competition today, conditions are not right for competition with the tide being full,” Lisa Andersen, former ASP World Champion and Contest Director of the Roxy Pro said. “We’ve decided to push for an early call tomorrow morning and a possible start with a lower tide. The forecast isn’t showing much until the weekend. We want to try to gradually run the early rounds during the right tides, so that by the time the waves get really good we have two good days of surfing and less heats.”

Event No. 6 of 7 on the ASP Women’s World Tour, the Roxy Pro will play a dramatic role in the crowning of this year’s World Champion with Australia’s Stephanie Gilmore in striking distance of the Title in France and potentially Sally Fitzgibbons (AUS), Carissa Moore (HAW) and Courtney Conlogue (USA) able to send the Title race to the last event in California.

Up first when the Roxy Pro commences will be Courtney Conlogue (USA) 19, Coco Ho (HAW) 21, and Sarah Mason (NZL) 17. The next Call is set to 7am tomorrow morning Wednesday, July 11, 2012.

The Roxy Pro Biarritz will be webcast LIVE via http://roxylive.com/roxyprobiarritz/2012/
