CÔTE DES BASQUES, Biarritz/France (Friday, July 13, 2012) – Building 2-3Ft surf at low tide this morning in Biarritz finally allows competition to be called ON for the opening round of the Roxy Pro, event n°6 of 7 of the ASP Women’s World Tour.

Competitors have been patiently awaiting the start of the second to last event of this season, and will hit the water this morning at 7.15am local time. With critical ranking points on offer in Biarritz, excitement is in the air and all surfers are ready to do battle at ‘La Côte des Basques’.

“We’ve got a little bit of new energy in the swell that’s supposed to be building throughout the day” Dave Shipley, ASP Head Judge stated. “We’ll be starting this morning at 7.30am with Round 1 and move pretty cleanly through Round 2 & 3 today with the likelihood of solid surf tomorrow to finish up.”

Kicking off today’s action will be World No.4 Courtney Conlogue (USA) 19, facing Coco Ho (HAW) 21, and Sarah Mason (NZL) 17, in the opening heat of Round 1 at the Roxy Pro. Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) 24, will start her Biarritz campaign towards a fifth World Title in Heat 4 of the first round, against Paige Hareb (NZL) 22, and Jacqueline Silva (BRA) 32.
