HUNTINGTON BEACH, California/USA (Sunday, August 5, 2012) – The final day of the Nike US Open of Surfing is LIVE this morning in clean two-to-three foot (1 metre) waves and will see the crowning of both men’s ASP Prime and Women’s ASP WCT event champions by this afternoon.

The final stop on the ASP Women’s WCT and the sixth of eight ASP Prime events on the 2012 calendar, the Nike US Open of Surfing plays a vital role in surfers’ qualification campaigns for the 2013 ASP WCT.

“Today is our last day of the waiting period and we’ll continue as scheduled and start with the men’s Quarterfinals and move in to the Women’s Semifinals,” Dave Shipley,” Women’s ASP WCT Head Judge said. “We’ll crown both of our champions by this afternoon and best of luck to our remaining competitors.”

Up first this morning will be Filipe Toledo (BRA), 17, against fellow South American Miguel Pupo (BRA), 20, in Quarterfinal No. 1.

The first women’s Semifinal will see Kauai’s Malia Manuel (HAW), 18, against fellow ASP Women’s WCT rookie Lakey Peterson (USA), 17, in Semifinal No. 1.
