Lay Day Called on Day 2 of the Airwalk Lacanau Pro Junior

GRANDE PLAGE, Lacanau – France (Saturday, August 11, 2012) - The inconsistent wind-blown 1-2Ft swell on offer this morning at La Grande Plage of Lacanau was not enough to resume the 1-Star Airwalk Lacanau Pro Junior. Forecasts have improved enough for the remainder of the waiting period to allow a day off today and organizers will reconvene tomorrow at 8am to reassess the conditions.

Yesterday saw the competitors surf multiple times, up to three for those who entered the event in its first round, and a total of 44 heats were surfed on split banks to move all the way into the Round of 32 for the Men’s. Aitor Aguirremota, ASP Europe’s Junior Tour Head Judge, is looking at a promising end to this event and the 2012 European Junior Series.

“Tomorrow’s conditions are looking better,” Aguirremota stated. “We’ve invited the surfers, men and women, to come back tomorrow for an 8am Call, and are looking to run the Round of 32 of both divisions, and more if conditions allow. Yesterday we ran a lot of heats with the double banks in pretty nice conditions and we’re expecting good waves for the last day as well so today’s logical decision was to call it Off. I’m hoping we can complete this event and this year’s Junior Tour with really fun conditions !”

Despite no competitive surfing on the event’s site today, all the COLP (organizers of the event) officials and young volunteers will be around today to host the surfers, medias and guests alike and have prepared a fun day in Lacanau with entertainment with everyone.

A Tahitian theme day is ON with traditional dances throughout the afternoon with a Polynesian crew and at 5pm, organizers will have a Stand-Up Paddle expression session including surfers from the event and competitors at La Grande Plage of Lacanau.

The next Call is set to 8am tomorrow morning for a potential re-start of the event’s Round of 32 for the Men’s and Round of 48 and 32 for the Women’s. Conditions should evolve and be more clement tomorrow with an incoming swell from the West and less wind.
