Stormy Weather Forces Lay-Day at SATA Airlines Azores Pro

[ 0 ] September 27, 2012 |

PRAIA DE SANTA BARBARA, Sao Miguel/Azores Islands (Thursday, September 27, 2012) – Day 1 of the SATA Airlines Azores Pro won’t see any competition happening at the beautiful Praia de Santa Bárbara due to strong onshore winds and messy 4-5Ft swell on offer throughout the day. Event officials are expecting a considerable amelioration for the upcoming two days and have decided to call off competition.

“We’ve decided to call a lay-day today, conditions are pretty bad: mushy, stormy, windy and it looks like it’s going to be good for the weekend,” Rodrigo Heredia, event organizer stated. “From tomorrow the wind drops, so does the swell a little bit, so for the girls I think we have plenty of time to give them the best possible conditions. This event is the last one, and it’s a unique chance for some of the girls to qualify for the World Championship Tour, and also to decide the European Title so we want to give them the best opportunities.”

Event organizers and surfers will reconvene tomorrow at 10am to re-assess the conditions and decide wether or not they allow to start the ASP 6-Star Women’s SATA Airlines Azores Pro. Action will kick-off with the event’s top seed, Bianca Buitendag (ZAF) opposed to Anali Gomez (PER), Skye Burgess (AUS) and Minami Takechi (JPN).

The ASP 6-Star Women’s SATA Airlines Azores Pro is scheduled from September 27-30, 2012 in Sao Miguel, Azores Islands. For all results, photos, video highlights, press releases and LIVE webcast, log on to azores.aspeurope.com.
