SAN JUAN, Lanzarote – Canary Islands (Sunday, October 21, 2012) - Europe’s best professional surfers prepare for the ultimate stage of their 2012 regional series, the ASP 6-Star Islas Canarias Santa Pro that will unfold next week at the iconic break of San Juan, Lanzarote.

Putting an end to an exceptional summer-leg throughout the Old Continent that saw several events run in perfect conditions and host dramatic final day performances, the Islas Canarias Santa Pro will decide this year’s European Champion as well as play a vital role in determining the qualifiers for the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour.

A favourite amongst both regional and international competitors, Lanzarote was absent from the previous season’s schedule and will happily play host once again to some of the World’s best athletes in the hunt for precious ranking points and a share of the $155,000 prize-money purse.

With an exciting forecast showing consistent swell for the entire waiting period and an unusual low wind activity, San Juan could deliver World Class waves and be the ideal location for the A-List of 144 surfers to do battle. Several ASP Top 34 members will join the usual qualifying series campaigners to try and secure their position at the Elite level for another season.

With the ability to move between four different locations including the primary venue of San Juan and the backup sites of Famara and both waves of La Santa, Canary Islands residents and surfing enthusiasts alike will have the opportunity to witness the likes of Tiago Pires, Heitor Alves, Patrick Gudauskas, Travis Logie and many more tear apart their local breaks.

With two event wins under his belt already this year, Marlon Lipke (DEU) current front-runner in the ASP Europe Title race will be looking to confirm his excellent form and stay ahead of his closest competition, Guadeloupe’s Charles Martin, Glenn Hall (IRE), Romain Cloitre (FRA) and Vincent Duvignac (FRA) who currently sit in the Top Second to Fifth spots respectively.

Complying with the standards of professional surfing events, the ASP 6-Star Islas Canarias Santa Pro will be broadcasted LIVE on the internet via the event minisite http://lanzarote.aspeurope.com. Up first when competition commences will be Vasco Ribeiro (PRT), Guillermo Satt (CHL) and Vicente Romero (ESP).
