The points system is a little tricky to decipher? I mean we have a few different opinions posted above? Can somebody from the asp please let us know what placings parko and slater need to win the world title?
As for who surfs better , well as surfing is an art form, and not in the same category of football or tennis, its not so easy to score. I prefer to see carving and flowing linking maneuvers. old style surfing. to the new hack and air attack. The new generation like the aerial and hacks.Airs are fantastic when they are pulled off perfectly and then flow into another driving bottom turn or such, but to do it at the end of the wave in the close out and get the higher score. No way. I think kelly and john john have the natural ability of flow , carving lines and airs , thats why they are the best surfers at the moment. I really doubt if anyone will match kelly in my life time.
ALSO ON AN EVEN playing field. I mean on a mechanical type reef or sand bar,(pipe , cloud break, snapper etc) Kelly would have the advantage. Some of the events were held in junky shifting conditions. and it was the luck of the surfer who was in the right place at the right time. The vans sunset was like that. Perhaps the mechanical type breaks should have a different points system to the non mechanical breaks?, that would make it easier to really know who is the best surfer on the asp tour. Seems something must be changed to make it fair.

You’re kidding.
Parko’s 8.33 against Travis Logie was a joke. Judges have favoured Parko all year!
what about his 9point plus ride on his first wave against JJF in their match up at Chopes!
JJF is a way better surfer out there and they were left with a one point margin for the rest of the heat. Slater surfs better than Parko all day everyday. Slaters air game is as good as the kids. Parko looks like he’s forcing every air attempt.
As for Parko world champ? he can’t even get over the line ! no wins = NO WIN.
if he was world champ surely thats just encouraging Tom Curren to come back. Style Flow and Turns wont win in this era. There needs to be innovation. Hence your Dusty call. Sure, that was worthy of beating Kelly.
As for the World Title, GO MICK!

Talk about trying to over complicate the possible outcomes. It is actually pretty simple. Kelly cannot win the World Title (WT) unless he makes the Quarters or better at Pipe. If Kelly does make the Quarters or better then Parko MUST finish at least one place/round or more higher than Kelly to win the WT otherwise Kelly wins the WT. Mick can only win the WT if he wins Pipe AND Kelly comes 5th or worse at Pipe AND Parko comes 3rd or worse.

It sucks when someone rips apart a wave with multiple turns and have someone get 9 + points for an aerial..time to make changes ..no more than 4 points per maneuver except tubes which gets 7 points no mas..ins fact surfing is riding waves not air

How did Kelly Slater get scored better than Dusty Payne?? Judges once again bowing to Slater, fearful that he might leave the tour. It’s a plain set up & Parko should already be the 2012 World Champ. Hopefully justice prevails!
